It looked like a clear cut homicide case: clean fingerprints, a reliable witness, and a confessed killer. But nothing is ever that easy in the 87th Precinct. The beautiful victim had a knife plunged into her chest, and her husband wasn't even hiding his joy. Carella was sure someone was hired to makeit look like an interrupted robbery, but when the wife's little black book turns up with a mile-long record of her nocturnal adventures in the city's sexual underground, it was time to call in the boys of the 87th Precinct.
