As he did in his search for the lost city of Ubar, Clapp used satellite images to track Sheba on ancient caravan routes and at archeological sites. In Israel he found dozens of living Queens of Sheba -- victims of the Jerusalem Syndrome -- and in Syria a mosque that may have been the real queen's tomb. An ancient incense road led him to her winter capital in Yemen, where kidnappers attacked while his Bedouin guides taunted, "Go ahead! Shoot him! Shoot, and then see what our tribe will do to you!" In the Rub 'al-Khali desert, Clapp discovered a five-thousand-year-old Arabian Stonehenge, and in Ethiopia another Sheban palace and a church where her son -- and Solomon's -- may have hidden the Ark of the Covenant. The "worst train in the world" took Clapp to Djibouti, where he set sail across the Red Sea in an ancient dhow, ending up shipwrecked on a barren island. Finally reaching the abandoned coffee port of Mokha, he headed inland with an armed escort, and in Sirwah, the "Camelot of the Sands", the pieces of the Queen of Sheba's story began to fall into place.
