Participants play as members of industry, political parties, labor, the media, and the judiciary. Together, the group must grapple with the specifics of societal organization -- as well as concepts like interpersonal trust, social protest, and power relations -- to prevent their artificial society from collapsing. If death, starvation, arrest, riot, or unemployment cause a participant's "National Indicators" to drop to zero, the game, and the society, is finished.
The revised SIMSOC -- complete with supplemental readings, 50 percent of which are new to this edition -- can accommodate larger and more diverse groups than ever before. And, with greatly simplified rules including new participation groups and means of generating private capital, the simulation runs more smoothly than ever.
