Sip by Sip: an Insider's Guide to Learning All About Wine
- Binding: Paperback
- Publisher: Main Street Books
- Publish date: 10/01/1998
Presented in workbook format, the information in "Sip by Sip" is clear, down-to-earth, irreverent in tone, served to the reader in digestible doses, and designed to take the so-called wine snob down a peg. Take, for example, Michael Bonadies's opinion on the excruciatingly exquisite dilemma of pairing wine with food: "Let me go on record as saying that food and wine pairings, matches, marriages...have become ridiculous. Maybe the salmon isn't really in the mood to be paired with the chardonnay tonight. Maybe it's feeling racy and wants to tango with the pinot noir. Give me a break." But don't think for a minute that this book isn't full of important useful information. It is -- on every subject from how various wines are produced, to how they taste, how they are served, and how they differ from one another. Obscure terms are clearly explained, wine jargon is demystified, seemingly abstruse subjects are clarified -- and while the reader is learning, he or she is enjoying the process, as well as increasing the enjoyment of wine itself.
