Description: A couple of years ago, journalist Michael Segell began to notice a serious diconnect between young men and young women, a seemingly irreconcilable gap between our post-feminist ideas of what gender relations should be and the very real desires that men and women actually have. As women begin to pose real competition to men in the workplace, men feel secretly too angry and resentful to woo women, resulting in an aversion to intimacy on the part of men and a historically unprecedented declining marriage rate.

Segell went searching for the causes of and solutions to this sexual stalemate. Most importantly, he searched for the ways a man can be the man he wants to be -- heroic and aggressive, yet loving and compassionate, successful in love and work with a wife who's similarly ascendant in love and work. In other words, how he can be a standup guy.

This book is about the changing world which has brought a new level of hostility between the sexes, but also a call for action to change that destructive dynamic. Through interviews with disaffected combatants on both sides of the gender war, participating in men-only groups like the New Warriors and the Promise Keepers, keen analysis of sexual manners, and boldly candid honesty about his own feelings and relations, Segell outlines a new masculinity.
