Description:
The most important of Reading's railways was, and still is, Brunel's main line from Paddington towards Bristol. For over 125 years steam dominated this route, with the GWR's distinctive green-liveried engines. Walter Gilburt's high-quality images provide a unique record of steam in and around Reading between 1950 and 1963. The work of other photographers also illustrate a wider range of locomotives and trains at work had rest. This compilation of pictures, most of not all unpublished, is supported by Kevin Robertson's informed and comprehensive text and will appeal to railway enthusiasts and local historians alike.
