Description:
When the handful of Polish American businessmen in New Orleans choose Lana Pulaski as their candidate for district attorney, her life takes a very interesting turn. Lana, a lawyer who favors billboard ads and keeps her office shabby so as not to intimidate her unsophisticated clients, was first in her law school class. She cannily hides her intellectual bent under a huge, improbably red-orange hair do, wears inch-thick makeup and clothes that by some miracle do not burst apart on her bountiful body. Her campaign is equally unusual and includes her instant wedding to an aged Cajun judge of fine family and dubious practices.

Not that Lana is the only unconventional character in the picture. There's the hunky exterminator called The Bugman, whom Lana hires to fly a "Vote for Pulaski" banner over the wedding festivities, but who decides to buzz the guests instead. And there is Scarlett, the judge's granddaughter. Scarlett is a painter; she daubs the private parts of animals and humans with acrylic paint and presses the canvases against them.
This Hiassen-like tale of bayou country politics is a heady combination of satire and farce.
