Description:
Sahu examines the Indian pharmaceutical and machine-tool industries to test out theories of technology transfer and technological dependence and self-reliance. The study shows that India has moved up the dependence self-reliance continuum, and its record of progress is better than other newly industrializing countries (NICs). Sahu demonstrates that India has overcome the technological dependence found in most Third World countries and enjoys a high degree of bargaining power vis-a-vis multinationals.
