Description:
Language revitalization is the practice of preserving, maintaining, and in some cases, reviving endemic languages which are in danger of being lost to non-native languages. Language loss is frequently seen as a loss of social identity or as a symbol of defeat by a colonial power -- if not by those abandoning the language, then often by the next generation. Moreover, the loss is not only a matter of perceived identity. Much of the cultural, spiritual, and intellectual life of a people is experienced through language.
