Description:
Aaron Steiner, a former college basketball star, has fallen apart. His career is a failure, and so is his marriage. In desperation, he accepts an offer to join a Jewish professional basketball team -- the House of Moses All-Stars -- which is traveling cross-country in a renovated hearse. As the members of this motley crew, who include a Communist, a Zionist, a former bank robber, and an Irishman passing as a Jew, travel west through an anti-Semitic land that rebuffs them, they discover that America is as confused as they are. Told with rueful humor, this is a loving, honest took at what it means to be an outsider in a nation torn between its ideals of freedom and equality and its fears of foreigners and poverty.
