Description:
Using a novel theoretical framework, this book explains how the EU social dimension has taken its present form. It presents and applies a political economic framework to the European labor market integration process and offers new tools for analyzing the dynamics of regional integration. Three case studies are conducted. The first two may be summarized as policies of social protection. They probe into the making of the EU's directives on health and safety protection at the workplace, as well as maternity leave. Finally the social dialogue process is scrutinized and pointers for future developments are offered.
