Each liturgy format in When Children Gather: 20 Eucharistic Liturgies for the School Year has two sections: "Preparing for Eucharist" and "Order of Worship". The first section provides suggestions for preparing children to hear the scripture, to pray and to minister at Mass. There are also suggestions concerning the worship environment, ways to organize processions, ideas for incorporating music in the liturgy and a practical checklist.

The second section includes specific music suggestions, all of which can be found in the full score, the student melody book, and on the CDs and cassettes. Also included are citations from the sacramentary and the lectionary, alternative prayers for different ages, and suggestions for homilies and mystagogy.

When Children Gather: 20 Prayer Services for the Liturgical Year is similarly organized and provides preparation suggestions and orders of worship for themed prayer services such as the Beginning of the School Year, Winter Prayer, Early Easter and May Crowning.
