Dr. Polly Young-Eisendrath, an internationally recognized Jungian analyst and psychologist, explores the idea that female desire is about women wanting to be wanted. In trying to please, women lost touch with their own needs -- sexually, socially, and spiritually, especially when their longings are at odds with how they want to appear to others.
Women and Desire is about finding our power in an image, rather than in our actions. In this kind of unconscious arrangement, other people provide us with feelings of power, worth or vitality, at the expense of our own development. We then feel resentful, frustrated and out of control because we have sacrificed our real needs and desires to this arrangement. In place of knowing the truth of who we are and what we would like to do with our lives, we become trapped in images.
Dr. Eisendrath will help women and girls untangle themselves from the web of reflected images that confuse their authentic wants and needs with the empty feelings of hidden compulsions. Blending all the facets of her expertise -- as a developmental psychologist, a Jungian analyst, a couple's therapist and a Buddhist -- Dr. Eisendrath will address clinically and practically how women can reclaim desire for themselves.
