It is several years after the conclusion of Running with the Demon. Nest Freemark, now an Olympic Gold-Medal runner studying as an undergraduate at Northwestern University, has returned home to Hopewell, Illinois, to settle the estate of her grandfather when she is asked to visit Seattle to persuade John Ross, the Knight of the Word, to return to the service of the Lady -- or face dire (but undescribed) consequences.
