Description: 21 years have passed since Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo destroyed the Death Star and defeated Darth Vader and the evil emperor. Since that time, the order of the Jedi has been revived, and the New Republic has established itself as the galactic government. But now, here and there, on the fringes of the galaxy, stresses are beginning to show: a small-scale rebellion here, a civil war there, and increasing outbreaks of crime are increasing evidence of disenchantment and unrest.

Rumors of rogue Jedi Knights taking the law into their own hands are beginning to plague Luke; his wife, Mara Jade, is desperately ill with a disease that has killed everyone else who has ever contracted it -- only her superior Force abilities are keeping it at bay. Leia is trying to negotiate peace in a brewing civil war instigated by a charismatic firebrand who seems to be utterly unaffected by the Force. And at the far edges of the Outer Rim a new enemy is approaching -- something alien and deadly, with weapons technology unlike anything New Republic scientists have ever seen.

Now Luke, Mara Jade, Leia, Han, and Chewbacca -- along with Han and Leia's teenage kids, the next generation of Jedi -- must battle once more for freedom. But this time, courage, sacrifice -- even the Force -- may not be enough ...
