Charlotte Perkins Gilman, 1860-1935, was an American author, lecturer, feminist, social reformer who lived during a time of great change in America--from the Civil War, through Reconstruction and Industrialization, through World War I. At the turn of the century she was one of America's most celebrated authors. Her pioneering books and lectures on feminism and socialism, most notably her best-seller "Women and Economics", made her a household name--so did the scandal often surrounding her. "Herland", the book in the title, is a Utopian novel involving the creation of a new world based on the principles of equity for women which she advocated in her writings and lectures. Bound in navy half cloth with copper titles, light green paper-wrapped boards, very clean and unmarked, with a strip of fading along top edge. Rem mark on top edge of page block. Tight, solid, square with sharp corners. Internals very clean and completely free from any markings, no creases.
