Description: The balance between Law and Chaos has long been maintained by the rulers of Bearn, but the death of the current king and the seeming lack of a suitable heir - along with the treachery of the prime minister - have enabled the elves to magically substitute one of their own on the throne. And, under the leadership of Dh'arlo'me, the dark elves now seem certain to claim their long-desired vengeance on humankind. But when, despite all Dh'arlo'me's attempts to prevent it, the small party which set out to find and bring back Griff, the last possible heir to the throne, seems likely to succeed in its mission, Dh'arlo'me realizes that even magic and murder combined will not be enough to overturn the balance between Law and Chaos. Now Dh'arlo'me's solution must hinge on Bearn's burden and treasure, the Staff of Law and the Staff of Chaos. These are the staves which are used to prove the worthiness of an heir to rule. However, they are far more than that. For within these plain pieces of wood dwell the essences of Law and Chaos, each eternally seeking its Champion, each striving to destroy the other and thereby permanently shift the balance of Midgard in its own favor. But should either Law or Chaos actually triumph, it will indeed herald the end of humankind. With all the worlds teetering on the brink of a new and certainly final doom, it falls to Colbey Calistinsson, Keeper of the Balance, to select the correct Champion to pit against Dh'arlo'me. If he chooses wisely, the Balance should reassert itself. Should he err, all life - both mortal and immortal - will come to an end. Yet even success will come at a high price. For the only way to insure that this danger can never arise again, is forboth Champions and Staffs to be totally annihilated.
