Description: Qualinesti elves & their former enemies, the Thorbardin dwarves, work shoulder to shoulder to complete the the timeless monument to peace, the mighty fortress of Pax Tharkas. But all is not well for Kith-Kanan, the founder of the Qualinesti nation, who must contend with growing unrest between himself & his twin brother Sithas, the leader of the Silvanesti nation; illegal slave trade within his country; & a rebellious, wayward son. After Kith refuses to accept the terms of an evil bargain with the mysterious red elf Drulethen, his beloved country is successively wracked by plagues of darkness, lightning, crimson rain, & unending light. Is there some connection between these events? And can Kith resolve, once & for all, the question of succession, despite the unfit behavior of his firstborn son Ulvian? The latter question is resolved, just in time, in an utterly unpredictable fashion.
