Charlie, completely unaffected by the scene he interrupted, explains that he's returned for Lizbet's help in exposing little Rachel Wright's killer back in 1973. Abducted on Halloween, the little girl's body was discovered two days later, but the murderer was never found. It's Halloween again ... and Charlie believes that there could be another murder of another child if Lizbet doesn't step in.
Lizbet, reluctant to get involved with Charlie again, but unable to refuse in the face of Charlie's blue eyes and golden hair, finds herself saying "yes", and jumps headlong into another precarious case that ultimately threatens Jonathan's life.
